There is just something about small miniature cakes that really puts a smile on my face. Cupcakes are just super-delicious, sweet, savory and downright heavenly. There is never a bad occasion for these cakes, whether it is a birthday, baby shower or wedding and sometimes we often take for granted how awesome these sweet treats are.

If you landed on this page, you either created a whole batch (that you know you won’t be able to eat them off in one go) or you just came into A LOT that needs to be stored. Well you ended at the right place, as I will answer that burning question, what is the best way to store cupcakes without having them dry out?

Store Them at Room Temperature: In an Air Tight Container

If you leave out your cupcakes without any protection, best believe they are going to dry out and not be as moist as when you first have them. If you want to keep your cupcakes for a couple of days and still have them super moist, your best option is really to wrap them or store them in an air tight container.

Having them in the air tight container will delay them from drying out and you can really keep them for a couple days longer than if you just had them out exposed.

Store Them in the Freezer

Even though the refrigerator could be the worst thing you could put cupcakes in (will explain below), the freezer is actually your friend.

If you have a nice batch that you want to keep for later date, throw them in freezer.

  1. Place cooled cupcakes on a baking/cookie sheet.
  2. Place in the freezer for 3-5 hours or until fully frozen.
  3. Once frozen, wrap with plastic wrap.
  4. Place in a Ziplock bag or container.
  5. These frozen treats can be stored up to 4-6 months with no problems.
  6. When ready to eat, just take out of the freezer and let it defrost on its own until it is at room temperature.

Do Not Even Consider the Refrigerator

If you want to save yourself some unnecessary tears and heartache, then do not even think about putting them in the fridge. While it might seem like the logical choice, the refrigerator and baked goods do not go hand in hand. Putting them in the fridge will have them dried out in no time and you would be super pissed to take out what you think is a nice moist cupcake, only to find it dried out and crumbly.

Stick with the steps above and you cannot go wrong, trust me on this.
