Can you freeze blueberry pie? Made a killer pie off an amazing recipe and want to enjoy it later? Have a need for this sweet treat and you are preparing ahead of time? Is it possible to freeze this type of pie? Well the answer is a resounding yes and below I am going to show you how you can do it.

How to Freeze Blueberry Pie?

That is really up to you, but an unbaked pie will have the fresh pie taste, as it will be done perfectly in the oven. With a frozen baked one, there might be a slight change in the taste and texture of the pie, but it will be very miniscule, plus it saves time from having to sit and wait on it to finish baking before you can enjoy.

Steps

Freezing a blueberry pie is pretty easy and it doesn’t take much effort. The good thing is that if done properly, you can store it for 6-8 months.

  1. If you want to freeze a blueberry pie that is fresh out of the oven, you are definitely going to want to let it cool for a couple of minutes.
  2. Once you feel that it is fully cooled, then the next step is to wrap it with plastic freezer wrap, as well as aluminum foil. You are going to want to make sure it is covered multiple times.
  3. Once it is wrapped properly, then if you have a freezer bag that is begin of, you can drop the pie in it.
  4. As mentioned above, you can store it for 6-8 months with no problems.

So What About the Filling Itself?

You can also freeze blueberry pie filling and it would essentially be the same steps as above, just leave out the wrapping part. You can just make the filling and put it in a freezer bag, then put it in the freezer. If you want to know how to go about defrosting it, check out how to do it below.

Defrosting/Reheating the Pie

I won’t get into too much about reheating the pie, as I have a pretty nifty guide on it. However, defrosting the pie is pretty simple and you have different options.

In the Refrigerator

You can take the frozen pie and place it in the fridge and allow it to thaw out. It is going to take a couple of hours or days to get fully thawed out. Once thawed, you can place it in the oven.

Straight into the Oven

If you have an unbaked or baked pie, you can actually place it directly in the oven. It will take longer to bake/warm up than if you were doing it from scratch or out of the freezer, but the results will still be the same.
